Fed Up King Gizzard Fans Demand to Know When Polka Album Being Released
MELBOURNE, Australia — Fans of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are voicing their frustrations on social media this week, demanding an update on when the band will release their inevitable polka album, the group’s record label has confirmed.
“It’s been a year since their last album, so the new shit has to be dropping soon and it has to be polka. They’ve already done prog, folk, indie, thrash metal, surf, electronica, psychedelic, jazz fusion, math rock, and an album with a fucking orchestra. The next logical step would be to add accordions and tubas,” said Declan Wallace. “If anyone could get polka out of the biergartens and into the areas, it’s King Gizzard. Seriously, they’re the only reason I know other music genres exist. Hell, they could just re-record ‘Nanogon Infinity’ with an oompah band and I’ll be happy. Plus we’d all have a good excuse to wear lederhosen at the next show!”
Members of King Gizzard were careful not to get their fans’ hopes up about the next record.
“Well, who is to say we might not infuse some woodwind instruments into future music — okay yeah, we’re putting all our resources into a polka record. Surprise ruined! We’re still putting the finishing touches on the yacht rock record, and then we’re heading to Milwaukee to grind out some sessions before the next leg of the tour,” said Stu Mackenzie. “Polka has really pushed us out of our comfort zone, trying to work in lyrics about Han-Tyumi traversing the ruins of civilization despite the music sounding like what you square dance to at Oktoberfest. I doubt that’ll stop us from making it a double album though.”
Music critics wondered where the band could possibly go from polka.
“I’ve always cited artists like David Bowie and Beck as the number one reason bands are under enormous pressure to evolve their sound. King Gizzard’s appeal is that they can’t be pinned down to one sound, but they should tread carefully when jumping into a non-rock genre,” said Spin magazine writer Jacob Hendrickson. “Remember Mars Volta’s acapella album, or when Morrissey tried to go gangster rap in the early ‘90s? Of course you don’t and for good reason. And they should never be brought up or spoken about ever again.”
As of press time, King Gizzard fans were buzzing again after photos appeared online of the band heading into the studio with “Weird Al” Yankovic.
